Yes! At Lone Star Medical Associates, you will see the same provider at each visit. Dr. Muzakeer Shaik is our board-certified internal medicine and geriatric physician, and he personally sees every patient at our practice. This allows us to build a trusted, long-term relationship with you and ensures consistency in your care. Dr. Shaik takes the time to learn your history, monitor your progress, and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

Yes! At Lone Star Medical Associates in Plano, TX, we offer same-day and next-day primary care appointments whenever possible. Whether you’re feeling sick, need a prescription refill, or have an urgent concern, we strive to see our patients quickly. Our flexible scheduling helps you avoid long wait times at urgent care clinics and ensures that you can receive timely, personalized attention from Dr. Muzakeer Shaik.

Yes, you can email non-urgent medical questions to mydoc@lonestarmd.org. However, for test result discussions, medication changes, or new treatment concerns, Dr. Muzakeer Shaik will likely ask you to schedule an in-office or telehealth appointment. This ensures your care is handled thoroughly and meets clinical safety standards. We offer secure telemedicine consultations for patients who are unable to visit the clinic in person.

Yes. You can request refills securely through the Healow Patient Portal or Healow app. If you provide us with an email, we’ll send step-by-step instructions after your appointment. You can also access the portal at mylonestarmd.com.

For best results, we strongly prefer that your pharmacy sends an electronic refill request directly to us. This method ensures greater accuracy and safety, as it includes your complete prescription history, dosage information, and the last fill date. Electronic requests are processed more quickly and allow us to approve most refills the same day—even on weekends.

Yes, in most cases. If you have previously discussed the medication with Dr. Muzakeer Shaik and it has been approved as part of your treatment plan, we will honor electronic refill requests from your pharmacy.

Please note that we cannot refill medications we are unaware of. Some patients forget to mention certain prescriptions during their visit, which means we may not have a record on file. For this reason, it’s very important to bring a complete and up-to-date list of your medications to your first appointment. This ensures we can safely refill your prescriptions and avoid delays. Electronic refill requests are preferred because they include important details like the dose, frequency, and last fill date, helping us maintain accuracy and patient safety.

At Lone Star Medical Associates, we strive to minimize wait times for both check-in and provider visits. On average, returning patients wait only 5–10 minutes before seeing the doctor once their intake is complete.

For new patients, the initial visit takes a bit longer due to required consent forms and intake information. We recommend that you arrive 15–20 minutes early or use the Healow Patient Portal or App to complete your intake forms ahead of time. This helps us keep everything running on schedule.

Once intake is finished, our nurse will take you back promptly and your visit will begin shortly afterward.

Yes, Lone Star Medical Associates offers in-office lab draws for most routine blood tests. This allows patients to complete their labs conveniently during their appointment, with no need for a separate lab visit. Common tests such as CBC, lipid panels, A1C, TSH, and vitamin levels are typically drawn right here in our office.

For patients who require labs processed by Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp, we can send orders electronically or provide a printed copy.

Occasionally, we may ask patients to visit a lab facility if fasting is required and they have not fasted prior to their appointment. This ensures accurate results, especially for tests like glucose and cholesterol panels that are sensitive to food intake.

While most tests can be performed in our clinic, some specialty labs may still require referral to an outside facility. Our staff will guide you through the best option for your situation.

Yes. At Lone Star Medical Associates, we prioritize coordinated care and seamless communication with specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers involved in your treatment. When we send referrals, we always include your most recent office notes, diagnosis codes, lab results, imaging reports, and current medications. This ensures the receiving specialist has all the essential information to continue your care safely and efficiently.

We also use PRISMA, a nationwide health information exchange integrated into our electronic medical records (EMR) system. This allows us to instantly view clinical data from participating specialists, hospitals, labs, and urgent care centers, helping us stay up to date on your care—even if you were seen elsewhere. If the provider you're referred to also participates in PRISMA, we can see their notes, imaging, and lab results in real time.

In addition, you’ll receive a confirmation message through the Healow App or Patient Portal when your referral is sent. Specialists can easily reach out to us if further details are needed, and our staff is trained to respond quickly.

We strive to eliminate gaps in care and reduce delays by ensuring open communication across the healthcare system.
